In 1979, Spain became a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy. It was officially divided into 17 communities and regions based on common cultural and historical backgrounds. This division has had (and still does) a positive and negative impact on some provinces. These provinces have been "demanding" a complete separation (Independence) from the monarchy of Spain and in the case of Catalonia (Spain and France).

Galicia, Basque country and Catalonia are the provinces that have been demanding political independence from Spain. There many reasons for their desire of separation, but mainly because they need to express their national identity. After all, they all have their own cultures.
Also, they all have their own language, in addition to Spanish.

An infographic Map shows that Catalonia and Basque country are the major regions that support national political parties. Catalonia and Basque country have been the most active in seeking independence. Both Catalans and Basques share sympathy because of their common goal.
